Mission, Vision, Strategy

Rockford Christian School strives to offer a Fine Arts Curriculum that is recognized for its overall excellence and innovation. We believe creativity is one of the unique ways we are made in God’s image. As such, we offer three unique, yet related dimensions of Fine Arts: Visual Art, Theatre, and Music (Choral and Instrumental). Our pursuit as a Fine Arts Department is to produce artists and scholars who are able to integrate their intellect and faith with their art, and their art with their worldview.

Our
Vision is to be the premiere Christian Fine Arts program in North Central Illinois by providing the highest quality academic and artistic education.

Our
Mission is to educate students in visual and performing arts by providing a lifelong foundation for the understanding and appreciation of all arts. Being made by a loving and creative God, we believe the arts are a vital component to the development of all students; and our goal is to provide an education that stimulates thinking, develops skills, and enables students to thrive in a changing world.

The Fine Arts Department's mission is central to RCS, because the arts are at the heart of intellectual, social, and personal development.

Our Strategy as a Fine Arts Department is to foster artists who continually grow in their discipline through the following process:

~ Expose our students to various styles and genres within each discipline.
~ Equip our students with the information, tools, and skills necessary to expand their abilities.
~ Empower our students to showcase their developing skills and talents through a variety of professional opportunities.

Department Divisions

Music

The Music Department is committed to developing confident, creative, and skilled musicians. In our college-preparatory environment, students learn what it means to be a part of a professional ensemble. Being a member of a performing ensemble provides students with skills necessary for the 21st century workplace including sequential instruction in discipline, communication, work cooperatively, problem solving and the ability to analyze.

Opportunities for musical experiences include participation in Vocal and Instrumental Ensembles, Applied Lessons, Class Piano, and AP Music Theory. Vocal ensembles include auditioned and non-auditioned choirs. Instrumental ensembles at RCS include Concert Band, Jazz Band, Pep Band, and a variety of chamber ensembles.

Theatre

The Theatre Arts Department serves as an educational base, a vocational training ground and an artistic resource for the community. By combining production excellence with academic achievement, the Department fulfills its role as a leader in the performing arts in the Stateline area. Each year the Department presents a diverse production season which combines high artistic standards with public appeal, and which challenges and expands the talents of students both on stage and behind the scenes.

Visual Arts

The Visual Arts Department works towards cultivating the creation and appreciation of visual art, fostering creative confidence, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.  Students have the opportunity to put their ideas into form while becoming visually literate, historically grounded, and familiar with the diversity of arts and cultures worldwide.
